    Episode 1

Do You Take Dexter Morgan?

  • When Dexter looks at the CERTIFICATE OF MARRIAGE he says that Rita got married at the age of 16, but the date of marriage on the certificate is 08-16-1989 and her date of birth is 04-19-1989. That makes her about 4 months old when she got married. John Alan Ackerman's date of birth is 07-25-1984 which makes him 5 years old.

Go Your Own Way

  • While Dexter is waiting for Miguel in his office he is playing a multiplayer game of Halo 3 on his computer, which is actually only available for the Xbox 360 console.

The Damage a Man Can Do

  • Dexter's username on his computer is Dexter_39476.
  • The address of the website, Miguel shows Dexter in the beginning of the episode, has no top-level domain like .com or .org as it just is www.footballvideos_list.

Sν Se Puede

  • Sν Se Puede is translated in English as "yes, we can", "yes you can", or better "yes, it is possible".

Turning Biminese

  • When Dexter is at the dock, you can see the four large fishing poles he's taking to the reef. As he's going out to sea, the poles are no longer behind him.

The Lion Sleeps Tonight

  • In the scene where Miguel and Dexter are drinking beer at the street festival and Dexter tells him he has mixed feelings about him being a father, a man wearing a blue t-shirt, sunglasses and holding two beers walks by them. In the next shot, the same person is walking behind them.
  • In the scene at the cemetery, the camera and other set equipment can be seen in the reflection of Miguel Prado's sunglasses.

Finding Freebo

  • When Dexter finds victim Teegan Campbell's driver's license on the computer, her date of birth is listed as 4/16/87, with a date of issuance of 9/23/90, indicating she somehow got a driver's license when only three years old.

Our Father

  • Angel is already wearing his gold badge when he is at Teegan's crime scene, even though LaGuerta gives it to him in the next scene.
  • Dexter has a new car. Its plate number is "F6P 273".

Left Turn Ahead

  • Fingerprints on non-porous surfaces such as metal would be destroyed if exposed to water.

There's Something About Harry

  • Dexter sends text messages on a Motorola phone, which does not have a QWERTY keypad. You should see him cycling through the letters for each key, but the letters just appear normally.
  • Lundy's slides and files reveal the names of more of Dexter's victims: Luke Wellens, Buck Forester, A. Jorgen, Kevin Mott, Jerry V., Sean Dibberman, Herbert W., Jacob Wilson, George Hoss, Olman Estavez, Alan Matherson, and Thomas Hillstat.
  • Doakes' aliases, supplied by the Department of Defense, are: Freddie Caldwell, Joby Harris, James Duke, and William Glass.

Resistance Is Futile

  • In this episode, we see that Dexter's box of blood slides is completely full. However, in Waiting To Exhale the box is only half full, and Dexter has only killed three people since then (Hicks, Olson, and Jimenez).
  • Doakes departs for Haiti from the Opa-locka Airport, 10 miles north of Miami.
  • Dexter's victim count is 47: he uses 46 test tubes to take samples from his slide collection and we know he killed Rudy from which he did not take a blood sample.

Morning Comes

  • When Dexter cuts Jimenez and leaves, he has blood on his shirt. When he arrives at Rita's he has the same shirt on but doesn't have any blood on it.

That Night, A Forest Grew

  • The music from the show was predominantly Chopin. Especially Nocturne No.2 in E Flat, Major Op.9, No.2.
  • When Dexter and Lila are at the restaurant Dexter goes to drink from his champagne glass then we see a different angle and he goes to drink from it again.

Dex, Lies, and Videotape

  • When Masuka and Deb are smoking outside the building, he asks Deb for a light and we can see Deb's cigarette is almost finished. However, in the next shot, when Deb hands over her cigarette, it becomes considerably longer.
  • Dexter pulls a wall mounted fire alarm pull station as a diversion and then calmly pushes the actuator back in to cover it up. This is not possible with modern pull stations because once the lever is pulled out, the actuator on the station must be reset with a key to allow the fireman to determine which precise alarm was pulled. This also happens with the smoke detectors but in that case a LED remains on to signify which alarm triggered the fire panel.

The Dark Defender

  • LaGuerta mentions that, counting the incident with Curtis Barnes, Doakes has been involved in two shootings in less than six months. The other shooting occurred in the episode "Father Knows Best", in which Doakes shot and killed Jacques Bayard, a Haitian war criminal.

See-Through

  • SS FUBAR (Curtis Barnes' boat): FUBAR is a military term for F**ked Up Beyond All Repair.
  • When Dexter brings Lila into the morgue and shows her one of his victims, the body is missing Dexter's signature mark: a cut on the cheek. In each of his kills, Dexter cut the victim's cheek with a scalpel to draw blood for his slide collection.

Waiting to Exhale

  • When Lt. Esme Pasquale is in her car talking on the phone, Lt. Maria Laguerta knocks on the window. She rolls the window all the way down, but in the next shot it's a couple of inches up again.

It's Alive!

  • The bowling team's name is "Bowl 'Til You Bleed".
  • Debra says there is a new Mass Murder worse than the Ice Truck Killer out there. A mass murderer is one who kills a group of people all at once, the Ice Truck Killer would be a serial killer. It is unlikely that Deb assumes that the find was all at once.

Born Free

  • The beer Rudy is drinking is named Jekyll & Hyde and features a skull and crossbones logo.

Truth Be Told

  • Rudy's apartment number is 23.

Seeing Red

  • When Deb and Doakes first arrive at the hotel, the reflection of the camera crane can be seen in the car's rear windshield.

Father Knows Best

  • In Dexter's flashback of the hospital, the doctors discuss a problem with his blood type. They say that he has a very rare blood type, AB negative, and therefore can't get a blood donor. However, this is incorrect. In reality AB negative can receive from any other negative blood type- A,B,O, or AB.
  • When Dexter is about to see the body at the morgue, a digital clock over his shoulder reads "4:11." In the very next shot, however, it says "4:17."
  • When Deb is waking up and starts talking to Rudy, there's an exceedingly quick shot where you can tell Jennifer Carpenter is wearing pasties.
  • Dexter references his biological father living "five hours up I-95." However, Dade City is located in Pasco County, on the western side of Florida, and would actually be five hours up I-75, since Interstate 75 traverses mostly the western part of the state while Interstate 95 traverses the eastern part.

Shrink Wrap

  • The website where Dexter posts his Craigslist-type ad is: www.miamilist12.com/miami/main.
  • Dr. Meridian's other patients (excluding Dexter's alias Sean Ellis) were Cathleen Alexander, Ken Andrede, Meghan Dowd, Vanessa Gayle, Jeff Irvin, Carolyn Jillian, Jeannie Lusignan, Melinda Mattox, and Art Rusis.
  • The e-mail address on Dexter's Craigslist ad is frozenbarbie@hotmail.web, but when the Ice Truck Killer replies, the message is addressed to frozenbarbie@hotmail.com.
  • While removing blood from Dr. Meridian's cheek, the level of blood inside the pipette changes. When collecting the blood he barely fills the tip and then removes it from his face. When placing it on the slide the pipette is nearly full.
  • The song that Deb is singing and dancing to is "Make Me Lose Control" by Eric Carmen.

Circle of Friends

  • When Dexter arrives at Neil Perry's trailer Deb says they have been digging through the entire night. Nevertheless, on the previous scene, when she calls Dexter to come by they are yet starting to dig.
  • Dexter makes reference to "a double-wide" when speaking about a trailer, in fact the trailer in question is a single-wide.
  • Neil Perry's cellphone service was with Verizon.
  • The song Neil Perry sings is the gospel, "Now the Day is Over".

Return to Sender

  • As Rita is pinning up a banner for Astor's birthday, one can see that the word "birthday" is misspelled.
  • Although they are only one day apart from each other, Sergeant Doakes' stitches were on his head on the previous episode whilst are totally gone without even a scar left on this one.
  • On the previous episode, we can clearly see on the screen of Dexter's radar the deepness of the place he dumped Valerie Castillo's body was of 300 feet. Nevertheless, at the beginning of this episode when listing all the trouble the Ice Truck Killer had to bring the body back Dexter says he had to dive 100 feet to do it.
  • Dex kicks a hub cap in the salvage yard. Later in the episode, the hub cap is back on its original place.
  • While the young witness is eating the cake/treat it changes size from having being bitten once to nearly being gone in the last scene.

Love American Style

  • As we can see thanks to Dexter's boat's radar the place "where a lot of his memories are buried" has as of now at least nine bodies in it.
  • The hotel where Rita works is called the “Z” hotel.
  • The license plate on Dexter’s Ford Taurus reads LFH 604

Let's Give the Boy a Hand

  • On the beginning of the episode right at the moment Dexter is doing a voiceover about the Halloween tradition of people wearing masks of monsters, Cody appears wearing a mask of U.S. President George W. Bush.
  • In this episode, when Dexter looks at the back of the photograph and sees the smiley face, the photo paper is HP. Digital photo printing wasn't around when Dexter was young.
  • Dexter should stick to blood spatter - for both the foot and the hand he is way off on where the killer's incisions are. The hand has been severed well below the carpals, clean through the radius and ulna. Similarly the foot has been removed by cutting through the tibia and fibula - the tarsals and metatarsals are about halfway down the foot itself.

Popping Cherry

  • Deb tells Captain Matthews she got a tip about a wood-paneled station wagon from Gabrielle, one of her vice contacts. In fact, it was a different hooker named Bella who gave Deb the tip.
  • Popping Cherry: The episode title comes from the slang term for piercing a women's hymen, usually during sex for the first time. In this episode, there is a flashback to Dexter's killing a human for the first time.
  • The episode title also refers to the dead prostitutes name, Cherry.
  • Popping is also a slang term for killing someone, so it ties into the sex theme of Cherry being a prostitute and also the fact that she has been murdered.
  • Jeremy Downs goes to Dade County Juvenile Prison.

Crocodile

  • When we see the fingernails in the ice they are the same colour as the on the hands of the doll (pink, yellow, purple, orange and green) but when Dexter is looking at them more closely later on one of the nails is blue.
  • When Deb knocks on Dexter's door in the beginning of the episode, Dexter opens the drapes to look outside. There, you can clearly see a light from the set.
  • As Dexter and Angel are comparing the DNA samples from the piece of flesh in Ricky Simmons' mouth and the drop of blood from the kitchen of the Simmons house, the computer screen shows the source of the samples to be "Jimmy Sanders" and "Residence: Jimmy Sanders".
  • During Dexter's flashback scene in which he talks with his father about what happens when a cop is killed, there is a shot in which Dexter's father's mouth on the upper left corner of the screen moves twice without any sound coming from it.
  • When Deb is asked to see Lt. LaGuerta and Captain Matthews, she is talking to Dexter in uniform and on her left shoulder is her radio. It is there when she hugs the Captain after being re-assigned and then it is gone as she stands ready to leave the room.
  • When Angel kneels down to retrieve the cell phone from under the couch, he puts his knee in the middle of a blood stain, but in the next shot there is no stain on his pants.
  • Sgt. Doakes takes down Norberto's photo from the chart. When Lt. Laguerta later comes to speak with him, not only has the photo reappeared, but he's seen taking down another photo. In the close-up it's the photo on the right in the middle but in the long shot it's the photo on the bottom right.

Dexter

  • The refrigerated truck that the killer was driving belonged to Miami Chills Ice.
  • Dexter has a Dexter lock on his apartment door.
  • At the beginning of the episode, Dexter drives by The Crescent Hotel, a popular Miami beach resort.
  • Dexter has a very large scar, located on his side, under his left arm about the height of his nipple.
  • Dexter's boat is named "Slice of Life".
  • Dexter keeps a case of slides, each one containing a blood drop sample from each of those he has killed so far, hidden in the wall unit air conditioner of his apartment.
  • Dexter cuts each of his victims on their right cheek with a scalpel to extract a drop of blood for his collection.
  • Dexter works with the Miami Metro Police.
